Subject	Has anyone done/seen this? Good/Bad idea

Message	So I got my 3 blocks back from the machine shop. So im gathering the oil strainers and oil pans, And one of the strainer have been modified. Has anyone seen this Mod done before? I took a closer look and the mesh can not come out as it is sandwiched between the two halves. I might do this to the others, as the need to be clean anyway. And I guess it was done because of the close proximity to the oil pan and the chance of getting a ding or dent in the pan. What the down side of this?
